The life of women in Victorian era was generally centered on family commitments. The only role of women in the Victorian era was to get married and look after the homely chores. The young ladies were groomed thoroughly to get married and had to be innocent, virtuous, biddable, and dutiful. The young women were mainly educated in accomplishments like French, drawing, painting, singing, dancing - everything which helped them to get a perfect suitor!

In the Victorian era tobacco companies offered as premiums in cigarette packs small "tobacco silks" or "cigarette silks,"
printed in a wide variety of motifs, including women, royalty, flags, butterflies, animals, etc. The tobacco companies
encouraged women to make things using the fabric, and women obliged with quilts, pillow tops and table covers.
The companies believed giving these items away would encourage smokers to chose one brand over another."

The advertising gimmick worked. In parlors of homes everywhere, men smoked while their wives fashioned the colorful
fabric swatches into quilts, comforters, table scarves and clothes, a marketing technique that is still used today.
